Frequenly Asked Questions

PROCESS QUESTIONS

Q: What is my first step?
A: Your first step is to contact us so that we can schedule your free estimate appointment.

Q: Why not paint my own house?
A: Using a painting contractor can help eliminate issues that can arrise during the project. It is their liability to ensure that your project is the way you want it. They can identify potential issues from their years of experience that a home owner or business owner may not catch. It is their profession!

Q: What does my estimate cost for my project?
A: At Decor Painting we don't charge you to give you a price. Our workers have enough experience with painting that we don't have a need to charge like some other painting companies.

Q: If I receive your estimate, am I obligated to have you paint?
A: Absolutely not. We provide you a free written estimate so that you know what to expect for your painting project. You are not obligated to use our quote or company unless you would like to move forward. At that point, you can sign off on the proposal and we can schedule you into our production schedule.

Q: What if my project isn't ready to paint due to damaged surfaces?
A: Our experienced staff will be able to determine on the initial visit whether or not we can begin painting on a particular surface. If there needs to be some type of work or services done before painting a surface, we have a network of our own proven contractors as resources to help provide other types of remodel services outside of painting. That way we can truly assist the property owner with their painting and remodeling needs.

Q: Will you really come and paint my house?
A: Unfortunately there have been those in the construction industry who are not a real company. Decor Painting LLC is a Kansas Limited Liability Company and is properly insured for doing our painting work. We have many testimonies of oversatisified customers from the work we provide for our painting projects. Decor Painting would not make it very long without this type of superior service and ability to complete projects in a timely manner. So yes, if we come to an agreement to paint your property, we will be painting it.

Q: How long will it take to paint my property?
A: The standard house takes 3 to 4 working days and a commercial property takes less or more depending on the actual property. Every estimate will be notated on the expected length of time for the project.

PAINT QUESTIONS

Q: What is latex paint?
A: Paint that can be thinned and cleaned up with water; used as a base for emulsion paints.

Q: Which is better, latex or oil stain, for future exposure?
A: Latex will retain its color for longer than oil base stain.

Q: Can you paint over mildew?
A: Yes, you can, but it's not advisable. Mildew will grow into the finish coat of paint.

Q: Can you apply latex over oil base?
A: Generally, no. If the oil base is flat, it will adhere, but if the oil base has a sheen---no.

Q: Can you apply oil over latex?
    A: Yes. Interior and exterior.

Q: What can be done to paint latex over oil base paint?
A: A barrier coat of oil base flat primer on interior or exterior surfaces should be applied. Also, you can sand and "rough up" the surface. This will aid adhesion of the latex.

Q: Is there a paint that is guaranteed not to mildew?
A: No. Mildew is a living organism that can feed on all types of surfaces (except zinc and metal). You can kill mildew by washing with a mixture of household bleach and water (1 qt. bleach to 1 gal. water).

Q: What is an alkyd paint?
A: Synthetic resin paint that is an oil base paint.

Q: What is an acrylic paint?
A: Synthetic resin that is present in most latex paints. It helps interior paints in adhesion, coverage and scrubability.

Q: What will oil base white paint turn yellow?
A: Because the alkyd resins in oil-based paint cause the gradual yellowing of white and off-white.
